Recently we were invited for the Bertin On The Yard! Brunching experience, it’s a great way to spend your weekend shopping, brunching and having a great time with friends and family. The ambience was very lively with tons of local homegrown talents showcasing their work in cute little stalls of their own. After a fun shopping experience, we proceeded with our brunching session at Bertin.
Bertin set across two floors, the ground floor offers traditional French classics while the second floor allows the guests to follow Bertin’s momentous journey to Marbella, Spain and Tangiers. This Bistro is a sleek artisanal white marble themed restaurant that takes you across a culinary journey engaging you with the most wonderful world of senses and flavors from Alsace to Marbella and all the way to Tangier.
The interiors of this place are picturesque as the story of Chef Bertin is beautifully engraved on the wall of the bistro and artistically entwined into their menu.
We started off by ordering a couple of mocktails which included the Rehydrator punch pitcher- which was a beautiful blend of fresh lychee juice with a hint of rose in it and a Bed of roses- which was Spanish rose water, served frozen! This one is a must try for all rose-lovers. We thoroughly enjoyed our drinks while we waited for our starters to arrive.
Our starters comprised of soups including the French onion soup accompanied with toasted cheese baguette and the creamy pumpkin soup with a dash of coconut milk. Both the soups were really rich in flavors and very unique yet true to their French roots.
For salads we went for the Avocado salad and the Chicken Caesar salad. The Avocado salad was too leafy and acidic for our preference but we absolutely couldn’t get enough of the Chicken Caesar salad. This salad is not one of your typical Caesar salads; it consisted of charcoal chicken, which was grilled to perfection accompanied with crisp popcorn Parmesan chips! We totally loved this twist on the Caesar salad and we are definitely going back for more. Not to mention one portion of salad could easily serve more than two people.
For the main course we decided to order the oven baked salmon in salt and herb crust and Butter chicken masala. The Baked salmon was breaded with salt and herb crust and baked to perfection. We absolutely loved the way the salmon was cooked; it was moist, tender and enriched with flavors. The salmon was accompanied with crisp potato wedges, greens and choron sauce.
The Butter chicken masala on the menu sure took us by surprise, on enquiring with the chef to find out what made them include this dish in their otherwise all-French menu, we found they wanted to cater to the needs of their Indian customers and as a result this was a recent addition to their menu. We thoroughly enjoyed the butter chicken masala accompanied with aromatic rice, although it did lack the intensity of Indian flavors.
Bertin lived up to all the hype that has been around for their desserts. The desserts menu was exceptional and we were spoilt for choices! We narrowed our choices down to the Fondant Fantastic and Oreo Triple Decker.
The reason why we ordered the fondant fantastic was as the menu depicted a story behind Chef Bertin’s and his sister’s love for ice cream and chocolate fondant, they mentioned a small incident on how they could never agree to whether stop for ice cream or chocolate fondant. This memory indeed inspired Chef Bertin to combine the two into one dessert, so that they would never have to choose again. The dish was a dream come true with every bite! The dark chocolate river explodes as you cut through the cake leaving you with a gooey, decadent and irresistible molten chocolate center. The Oreo Triple Decker was no deceiver! Layers of Oreo crumble, chocolate mousse accompanied by lemon sorbet and cake crumble. It tasted great although we wished the crumble were a bit softer as it was difficult to cut through it.
All in all we had a beautiful brunching experience with Bertin. The visitors are surely guaranteed a warm welcome by the friendly and attentive staff. With utmost passion and love of food from three culinary backgrounds, Bertin Bistro is surely set to win hearts of conceptual food enthusiasts in Dubai.
